2020 Globe Soccer Awards: Real Madrid best football club of the century
2 min read
Since 2010, Globe Soccer Awards event has been growing in terms of the prizes awarded and has been gaining a greater impact every year, making this year’s gala perhaps the most successful in terms of cultural and global recognition.
As the best player of the year, Globe Soccer awarded Robert Lewandowski, striker of Bayern Munich. Funny enough, the Polish striker was in a top three along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the same as the FIFA Best Players Award.
Unlike the award given by the highest body in world football, the recognition for the best manager of the year went to Hans-Dieter Flickr for his achievements with Bayern Munich, who should be noted was the best club in the world for Globe Soccer and I think for pretty much every single football fan.
In this edition, categories were included that referred to the best of the century (so far) and there we found that Real Madrid was recognized as the best football club in the world so far in the 21st century. It is worth mentioning that Real Madrid was recognized, at the time, as the best club of the 20th century by FIFA.
Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded with Globe Soccer for the best player of the XXI century over Messi, Salah and Ronaldinho, in a recognition that is less striking. Pep Guardiola won the best manager of the century award, beating the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Zinedine Zidane and José Mourinho.
A peculiarity of the Globe Soccer awards since its inception has been the fact that they give the award for best agent, something that is not usually seen in this type of event. Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portuguese agent, was the one who won the award this year and in fact has done so in 10 of the 11 editions of the award. Finally, two special awards were given for their respective careers to Gerard Piqué and Iker Casillas.
