Once regarded as a monumental flop all across Europe, Ciro Immobile found his home at Lazio and has delivered the best seasons of his entire career. And now that 2020 is coming to an end, the Italian international had the best season ever of this year winning the 2020 Golden Boot.
When Ciro Immobile signed for Lazio back in 2016, there were valid reasons for their fans to be concerned. After all, the former Torino striker struggled massively at the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and did likewise at La Liga with Sevilla. His return on loan to his beloved Torino didn’t work, either.
But under the tutelage of manager Simone Inzaghi and having a fresh start at Rome, Ciro Immobile not only found his groove back, but he also got better as a player reaching far greater heights. He is now one of the most consistent goalscorers in Serie A in recent years.
Immobile was named Lazio’s player of the year this 2020, but to be fair, the reality is that Immobile has proven time and time again to be a clutch player for them while also delivering the goods on a very consistent basis, which is something that has helped Lazio to go back to the Champions League this season and qualify to the rounds of 16. However, his greatest individual achievement is winning the 2020 Golden Boot, ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski, a task that not many footballers can brag about.
While Simone Inzaghi deserves a lot of credit for the resurrection of Lazio throughout the years, the reality is that Ciro Immobile has been the poster boy for said resurrection and his goals, mentality and clutch made him one of the key cogs of the Italian club’s machinery. 2020 has been a very complicated year for a lot of people, but Ciro Immobile can look back and say that this year has been extremely positive for him. He should be proud of his achievements.
