Alfa Romeo will continue to be part of Formula One also in 2021 by signing an agreement with Sauber Motorsport for the 2021 season.

The announcement arrives just before the race of Imola, the same track where Ayrton Senna lost his life. Alfa Romeo also announced that both the current drivers are confirmed for the next season. The two pilots, Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, have not commented yet the press release.

Alfa Romeo commenced the partnership with Sauber in 2018. Despite the results have not been great, Alfa Romeo decided to rebrand the racing team and commit in first person. It seems that the company benefited from the presence in Formula One bringing credibility and high-quality know-how to its Alfa Romeo cars.

In this regard, Mike Manley, the chief executive officer of FIAT Chrysler Automobiles, holding company of Alfa Romeo, commented, “Racing and performance are at the core of Alfa Romeo’s DNA. The brand was practically born on a racetrack and today we continue to compete at the most technologically advanced level of motorsport.”

Manley continued, “the partnership with Sauber also allows our customers to benefit from exclusive racing know-how, as it is the case of the all-new Giulia GTA and GTAm, which incorporate Sauber Engineering’s technical input particularly as it relates to advanced aerodynamics”.

Frédéric Vasseur, Sauber Motorsport AG‘s team principal, said, “The extension of our relationship with Alfa Romeo is a true statement of intent from both parties. In Sauber, Alfa Romeo found a committed, performance-driven partner to which they could entrust their brand. We are honored to carry the heritage and past success of Alfa Romeo in our name. Both parties always intended for this relationship to bear fruit in the long term. We have laid some solid foundations in the last three seasons and we aim to reap the rewards of this work in 2021 and beyond”.
