Amad Diallo: who is the new young gem of Manchester United?

One of the most promising and highest-regarded youngsters in the Italian football has secured himself a big move to the English Premier League. But time and patience have to be provided for Amad Diallo to reach his highest level with Manchester United.

When Amad Diallo came off the bench for Atalanta in October 27th of 2019 to score in his professional debut against Udinese four minutes later in the Bergamo team’s 7-1 win, there was a lot of questions about who Amad Diallo was and where this kid came from. And, now that he secured himself a transfer move to Manchester United in January 2021, there is even more interested in the young Ivorian winger.

The 18-year old right winger has gone through Atalanta’s academy, the highest-regarded in Italy, and he was a big part of their Primavera team’s success, winning the Scudetto of that level in both 2019 and 2020 seasons, with Amad Diallo being voted the tournament’s best player in both occasions.

As a player, Amad Diallo is ambidextrous right winger that has pace, technique, good vision, a knack for goal and capable of contributing with a few nice passes here and there. And, in recent cameos for Atalanta’s senior team, like in the recent 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Champions League, he was also shown capable of playing along both sides, a rare gift who makes him extremely versatile. This is a player that has been highly-regarded in Italy and he could have a very positive impact in England if he follows this natural progression.

Amad Diallo hasn’t played that much with Atalanta because Gasperini tends to play without wingers and now that he is leaving them for Manchester United, it is understandable that he is not getting a lot of minutes. But by the time he gets to Man United, if he is capable of establishing himself in an easy manner, he might have an opening in the team as the Red Devils have been struggling to get a proper right winger for quite some time now. In addition, Manchester United is a team which historically offers opportunities to young players unlike other clubs. Therefore, Amad Diallo is about to join a club which may truly give him a chance to establish himself in England.
