Andrea Dovizioso Won’t Race in 2021 MotoGP

Andrea Dovizioso, who will leave Ducati at the end of the season, has chosen his own future, at least the imminent one: he has decided to take a sabbatical year leaving open the possibility of returning to the MotoGp in 2022. Yamaha in the role of test driver will have Cal Crutchlow.
It is one of the most painful news to receive, but it seems that Andrea Dovizioso in 2021 will not be part of the MotoGP. Dovizioso has simply resigned himself to a so-called sabbatical year, waiting that for 2022, when many contracts will expire. Maybe new opportunities may arise for him then.
Dovizioso is therefore not about to announce a withdrawal, but a temporary suspension of his career as MotoGP rider. At the end of the day, a tester’s role was perhaps not at the top of the list of priorities for Dovizione who already mentioned that he would like to be a MotoGP racer and nothing else.
Two more races with Ducati, then Dovizioso is preparing for a year that may have many projects, but nothing to do with MotoGP or even less with Superbike. It could not be excluded that Dovizioso can try Motocross races and maybe some car racing, just to keep his body and mind awake and in shape. Or simply to wait for 2022 to give him the chance to resume that interrupted MotoGP career too soon.
Dovizioso’s morale, given the thorny epilogue of his marriage to Ducati and the difficulties of a technically very steep season, is certainly not at the top right now. Perhaps he needs to calm down, to take away the sense of disappointment and recharge the batteries. Who knows? One year off in this sense may be the wisest decision of all.
