Cam Newton Tests Positive for COVID-19

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday morning. With Newton now being a positive case means the rest of the Patriots offense has to be re-tested for the coronavirus.

All the players were alerted last Saturday and brought in for testing shortly after Newton found out. The team was set to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and leave for Kansas City at 1 p.m. on Saturday, but the team was placed on standby until all the players got further tested. Newton was the first of the Patriots players to have the coronavirus but it is uncertain if the virus has spread to any of the other players and staff.

In a statement from Saturday morning, the Patriots wrote “Several additional players, coaches and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19”. Luckily, Newton was sent to self-quarantine immediately after finding out in hopes that the virus will not spread to the other staff or players.

Brain Hoyer is expected to start in place of Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham will be the back-up for Hoyer. This is a very unexpected event that the Patriots were not ready for but took the necessary precautions to make sure everyone was staying safe. It is still unknown if the virus has spread to any of the other staff and players.

The Tennessee Titans have seen how fast the virus can spread so we are sure the Patriots acted quickly to ensure that was not their case. Newton has started the Patriots season with a 2-1 record and completed 68.1 percent of his pass attempts for 714 yards. The game has been postponed until further notice and will be a good game at that.
