Conor McGregor Return vs Dustin Poirier is Set: January 2021

2 min read

The confirmation arrived via Twitter when the former Irish UFC champion twitted “I Accept”. Initially, McGregor was pushing for a fight in 2020.

The date for the return of Conor McGregor is set: 23rd January 2021. The fight, which will be against Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, was initially expected to be in 2020 as per McGregor’s request.

However, few days ago Dana White, UFC President, has clarified the ongoing schedule of the UFC for the next month during an interview with ESPN: “We offered him a fight, we got him his own date. We didn’t have a date this year. We have everything laid out for this year, with world champions fighting for titles. He wants to fight Dustin Poirier apparently, so we went to ESPN and got him his own date. He’s been offered Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23”.

McGregor responded via Twitter within 24 hours: “I accept, Jan 23rd is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny”. As of today, it is unclear whether Dana White will accept the suggestion of Conor McGregor to fight in Texas. Therefore, the location remains unknown.

However, it is interesting to note that McGregor, in the same twit, has confirmed once again the potential bout between him and the boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao. This is a news we reported some weeks ago and, despite the decision of McGregor to return to the UFC, he is still planning to face the Filipino boxing legend.
