Eddie Hearn’s major statements on Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury in 2021

Based on the recent statements issued by Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing’s boss and promoter of Anthony Joshua, it seems that we are close to the possible confirmation of the best heavyweight boxing fight in a long time: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury.
Matchroom Boxing’s number one Eddie Hearn is aiming to finalize the fight between his client, WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) and the WBC and “the lineal” champion Tyson “Gipsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) as quickly as possible. If confirmed, this would be one of the greatest fights in the heavyweight division of the last few years. However, on Saturday December 12, at the Wembley Arena, Anthony Joshua will defend his belts against the 39-year-old Bulgarian Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (28-1, 14 KOs). We have already posted our prediction. Should AJ confirm the odds, then Eddie Hearn will ramp up negotiations with Frank Warren and Top Rank to put on a reunion fight in 2021.
Hearn said he has no problems with striking a financial deal on the 50-50 basis between Joshua and Tyson Fury despite the promoter think that his client has much more exposure and commercial appeal than his compatriot Tyson Fury. However, according to Hearn, in order to make sure that this fight will happen, and Tyson Fury would not walk away, Joshua’s team is available to accommodate Tyson Fury’s commercial request and to negotiate on an equal split agreement. The final comment was dedicated to Tyson Fury commencing the controversies in view of the super-fight. According to Eddie Hearn, Tyson Fury was not in a position to fight before the end of 2020 since his image was not strong enough to generate sufficient pay-per-views. Ouch! Looking forward to reading about TF’s counterpunch now… And, by the way, we can confirm that for Tyson Fury this match will not be about money…
Back to Anthony Joshua, Eddie Hearn is just waiting to see Joshua with his fists raised to the sky as sign of victory at the end of his fight with Kubrat Pulev, after which he will want to move on to conclude negotiations with the parties involved. This would make the British-tinged derby between Joshua vs Fury a reality in 2021.
The well-known (mainly thanks to his father) British promoter also mentioned that the negotiation between the fighters can be conducted and sealed within 2 weeks. The issue at that point would be among the federations involved, which are quote a lot considering that this would be a re-unification fight. Concluding the interview, Eddie Hearn dropped another hint about the location. The fight could happen in the United Kingdom, but it could generate 50% less other countries. We are not sure about what countries Hearn was referring to. We can only imagine only one country, or better, one city where such a fight can generate the highest income: Las Vegas. However, unconfirmed rumors reported that the fight may take place in Saudi Arabia, where Anthony Joshua won the rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr.
We guess that several speculations will be reported before all the final details will be confirmed. So let’s try to stick to what seems a dream becoming reality: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury may really happen in 2021.
