Coming to within two wins of an NBA championship this past season, the Miami Heat are primed to contend for the next several years, particularly after agreeing to a five-year extension for Bam Adebayo. The deal reportedly is worth up to $195 million over five years, according to Adebayo’s agent Alex Saratsis.

The Miami Heat obviously sees something big in Adebayo and why not, after the season he had last year. In just his third season, Bam Adebayo averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game. Only superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo put up such numbers. The contract is the highest in total value in franchise history, eclipsing the contract signed by Jimmy Butler last year by $50 million.

The Heat made a smart move extending Adebayo before December 21. Had they waited, that would be looming over Adebayo and the Miami Heat until next summer. An All-Star for the first time in his three seasons, Bam Adebayo’s annual salary could easily surpass $30 million per year in the extension should he make more All-Star teams.

Not only is Adebayo a young star with a tremendous future in the NBA, but he’s also a responsible young man. He indicated that taking care of his mother, who struggle to raise him working multiple job, was his only financial goal.

Bam Adebayo increased his production from 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a rookie, to 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in 2018-2019 to his 15-point, 10 rebound per game average last season. Reaching 20 points per game is clearly in the future for Adebayo, who will quickly become the face of the franchise. After all, Jimmy Butler is 31, Goran Dragic is 34, and newly acquired Avery Bradley is 29. None of them will likely be around during the duration of Adebayo’s contract. However, they could be around to see the young star lead the Miami Heat to an NBA title.
