2 min read

Sergio Ramos, or should we say, the greatest defender in the history of football? Real Madrid’s center-back has been awarded the title of greatest defender ever by French readers, with almost 64% voting in his favor. Well, there is no room for debate in this regard. Ramos has repeatedly proven why he deserves this title, and all his achievements speak for themselves.

Moreover, the fact that Sergio Ramos has been a part of Real Madrid’s most successful eras is not an accident, as he has played a huge part in the success of the whites. Ramos scored his 100th goal against Inter Milan, a number that is astonishingly high for a defender! He has scored 14 goals in the Champions League overall, and 2 of them were against Atletico Madrid in the finals. Throughout his career in Real Madrid, the superstar has played a total of 659 matches and won 22 trophies.

These stories of success aren’t only associated with Los Blancos, Sergio Ramos has won some major trophies at the international level as well. He was a part of the Spanish national team when they won the 2010 World Cup, and the European Championships in 2008 and in 2012. Sergio Ramos also shares the record with legends like Raul and Karim Benzema of scoring goals in 11 separate editions of the Champions League.  While people are praising Sergio Ramos for all the right reasons, there is a group who blame him for injuring Mohamed Salah in the 2018 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Kiev !

Sergio Ramos loves playing for Real Madrid, and he does not even consider playing for any other club despite the recent rumors. His agreement will expire in June 2021, and there is no news about a new contract yet. But, Zinedine Zidane surely understands the worth of the Spanish star, and he knows that even at the age of 34, Ramos still has experience and skills needed by the team!
