The good news for MMA fans is just around the corner as Islam Makhachev may fight Drew Dober at UFC 259 in March 2021.

Islam Makhachev (18-1-0) is about to come back in action again after a long time. Makhachev, 29-year-old, is expected to face Drew Dober (23-9-0, 1 NC) at UFC 259, an event currently work-in-progress. Despite nothing has been officially announced, some sources are confident that this fight will happen as Islam Makhachev since both fighters have given in-principle approvals.

The Russian fighter was scheduled to face Alexander Hernandez (12-3-0) in the octagon last April before the fight got canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. After a few months, UFC scheduled Islam Makhachev against the former world lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (30-13-0) twice. However, in the first proposed date, dos Anjos tested positive for Covid-19 and, in the second occasion, Makhachev got a staph infection just a weak before the bout.

Makhachev has one of the best winning streaks in the UFC lightweight division at the moment since he has defeated 6 of his last opponents. With an impressive record of 18 victories and 1 loss, Islam Makhachev is climbing the ranking of the division and it may have a title shot very soon. Drew Dober, 32-year-old, looks in good shape after a successful 2020. In fact, Dober put both of his opponents to sleep on the canvas: first Nasrat Haqparast (12-3-0) was knocked out in just 70 seconds, and more recently Alexander Hernandez (12-3-0) by TKO in round 2.

UFC 259 will take place in March, and no official fight card has been announced yet. So, as of today, it is hard to know the main event despite we all hope for a heavyweight fight between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. However, regardless of the main event it will be a great pleasure to see again Islam Makhachev in action.
