A big piece of news for Mixed Martial Arts fans is just around the corner as former UFC Lightweight Champion, Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has revealed his mission and his plans regarding this sport. The undefeated Russian mixed martial artist is planning to bring MMA to new heights by including it in the Olympic Games.

Several enthusiasts in the MMA community, including the UFC President Dana White, still hope for a return of Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0-0), at least once, to fulfill his father’s dreams of achieving the incredible record of 30 victories with no defeats. However, Khabib seem to have different plans already. In fact, it was announced few days ago that the Dagestani fighter has bought the Gorilla Fighting Championship for a price around USD1 million. The MMA promotion will change its name into Eagle Fighting Championship and, most likely, the events promoted by Khabib’s new company will be broadcasted on the UFC streaming service Fight Pass.

However, the acquisition of the newly renamed Eagle Fighting Championship seems to be only the first step of Khabib’s plans. During a press conference in Uzbekistan, Khabib announced that his intention is to bring the MMA to the Olympic Games. He mentioned that his target is to make sure that MMA will be included as a new discipline in the summer Olympic Games in 2028. No further details have been released at this stage and we are not aware whether the UFC is backing Khabib in this endeavor. In any event, there is no one else better than Khabib in promoting MMA worldwide and we hope he will be successful.

On a separate note, Khabib has been asked whether he will return or not to the octagon for a very last fight in order to honor his father’s dream and the Dagestani has been candid and frank as usual. He has no plans in this sense and he said that a rematch with either Conor McGregor (22-4-0) or Dustin Poirier (26-6-1 NC). would not make sense since both fighters has been already defeated by him. However, in front of an insane economic proposal, he may consider the option. In addition, as reported by Chisanga Malata on Twitter, one condition needs to be satisfied in order to see Khabib back on the octagon: “his mother has to give him her blessing”. Finger crossed, folks!
