Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Gentleman

2 min read

Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has now retired and made a statement that he has promised his mother that he will never come back to the octagon without his father.

But there are a lot more things to talk about, and in a recent video, Daniel Cormier has revealed something about the last fight of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Everyone knows that Khabib has won most of his bouts via submissions, and he is known to be a monster when it comes to wrestling as his ground and pound is superior to all others. Khabib takes you down so many times and drags you on the canvas to get in a position where he can easily choke you.

Khabib rarely applies triangle choke to anyone and out of his 11 submission victories, he has won just 4 with a triangle choke in the early stages of his career. In his famous victories against Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, Khabib submitted both of them with a rear-naked choke.

During the fight against Justin Gaethje, the Eagle could have easily gone for an arm-bar but he never applied it, and Daniel Cormier who is a friend of Khabib has recently explained in a video why he did not apply an arm-bar to register his 29th victory out of 29.

When Khabib took Justin Gaethje down, he remembered him saying that he will never tap and because Justin’s parents were watching that fight, Khabib went for the triangle as he did not want to hurt him in front of his parents.

Daniel Cormier said, “He told me when he was watching the interviews over the course of the week right, he saw Justin saying that he would never tap. And so, when he was going to the submission, he said it was his dad’s favourite submission. Get into that position going to the arm-bar, going to the triangle, he was going to the arm-bar but he had listened to Justin saying all the week that he will never tap, and Khabib did not want to hurt him in front of his parents. So, he went to the triangle and just kind of put him to sleep, and when you wake up you are fine”.

Khabib is a gentleman!
