Luke Campbell vs Ryan Garcia rescheduled for January 2

The challenge between former WBC lightweight champion Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) and young Californian talent Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) has been postponed to January 2, 2021.
The two contenders were supposed to fight on December 5 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio for the WBC “Ad Interim” 135-pound title and then for a place as official challenger to the world title. However, a couple of weeks ago, the 33-year-old Briton Luke Campbell, Olympic gold medalist in 2012, tested positive at COVID-19 and so he had to stop his preparation and consequently cancel the bout.
Golden Boys and Matchroom Boxing had committed to find a new date, for this meeting particularly awaited by most fans, as soon as possible. Ten days after the news, the two promotions announced that January 2nd will be the scheduled day for the fight which will be broadcast by DAZN. At the moment, it is not yet clear what the location will be.
Luke Campbell has been away from the ring since August 31, 2019, when he was forced to surrender his world title to Ukrainian champion Vasyl Lomachenko (14-2, 10KOs) in their belt reunification bout. Ryan Garcia, on the other hand, has not fought since last February 14, since the match that saw him beat in one round Francisco Fonseca (27-3-2, 21KOs) and earn the WBC “silver” category.
Hoping that everything will go smooth and the fight will really happen, we see this bout as a great opportunity for both boxers. After losing against Lomachenko, Luke Campbell must win if he wants to continue his path to regain his former WBC belt. We feel that this could be the last call for him since the competition in this division is massive and full of talents… In relation to Ryan Garcia, the perspective is the opposite: he is a rising star and he needs certainties and confirmation to make sure he truly belongs to the top 5 in the lightweight category. A victory again Campbell would definitely consecrate him as no. 1 contender for the world champion title again Davin Haney (25-0, 15 KOs).
In just over a month the ring will tell us which of the two will prevail. Predictions on the way before the fight. Stay tuned.
