Conor McGregor and Dusting Poirier will not fight for the title: this is what UFC President Dana White made clear in a recent interview. Dustin Poirier and “The Notorious” will have to wait a little longer to get a title shot. According to White, Khabib Nurmagomedov may decide to return to the fight to bring his record to 30-0.
Conor McGregor is a real money-maker, but despite this and the current dramatic situation, involving all combat sports due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Dana White does not seem interested in giving the Irish fighter the opportunity to fight for the lightweight belt against Dustin Poirier. Despite UFC is highly sensitive to PPV sales, the fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will not be for the lightweight belt reducing sensibly the appeal of the match and so the potential incomes.
Most likely one of the reasons why the belt is still with Khabib Nurmagomedov is because Dana White hopes for the return of the Dagestani fighter. The UFC President remarked once again that Khabib will come back to bring his record to 30-0, as he has already mentioned few days after Khabib’s retirement. Dana White confirmed that Khabib is still training and he is still subject to USADA tests. In this regard, few days ago Khabib has publicly complained on his Instagram profile to have undergone 47 drug tests since 2015.
Going back to Dana White, the UFC President has added that Khabib just needs to stay with his family right now and spend quality time on vacation after the events he went through, remarking at the end “Khabib will fight again”. We all hope so!
