Daniel Dubois will have to stay still for five months due to the fracture to the left orbital bone, combined with some nerve damage to the eye remedied on November 28th during the fight, lost by knockout in the tenth round, against Joe Joyce.

Last 28 November, Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) not only lost a match but also, he was close to end his career for good according to the medical assessment on his left eye. During the match against Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (12-0, 11 KOs), the left eye of the 23-year-old Briton heavyweight boxer began to swell up due to several devastating jabs inflicted by his compatriot Joyce, until it closed almost completely during the tenth and final round. It was then that Dubois decided to quit waiting, with a knee on the canvass, for the full count of the referee.

Now, after the full medical tests have been carried on the results are scary. The doctors confirmed that Dubois was about to lose permanently his left eye. In fact, other than the fracture to the orbital socket and the damage to the nerve, Dubois suffered and internal retinal hemorrhage. After the complete assessment, doctors are positive that Daniel Dubois will be able to fight again and he will fully recover from the damage. However, for the very final confirmation, doctors need to wait for the swelling to be reduced before agreeing whether a surgery is required.

A long stop is expecting the British heavyweight boxer since, for at least 5 months, Dubois cannot resume boxing training in order to give enough time to the nerve, orbital socket and retina to fully recover. And, this would be the best case scenario.

Believe it or not, the name of the surgeon who is currently taking care of Dubois is Ricardo Mohammed-Ali, who is specialized in orbital bone fracture surgery. Mohammed-Ali, according to the Daily Mail, one of the best surgeons in his field in the entire United Kingdom, has mentioned that, after all, Dubois was lucky of not losing his eye. The doctor continued mentioning that the eye was very closed to be entirely dislodged from the socket causing permanent and irreparable damages to the eye causing a premature end to Dubois’ career. Thankfully this was not the case. Come on, Daniel, you are in good hands. Mohammed-Ali is looking after you!
