Norwich City and their way back to the English Premier League

2 min read

Despite being relegated in the English Premier League last season, Norwich City FC left a good impression in the top category of football in England, especially in the first half of the league where players like Teemu Pukki, Emiliano Buendía or Todd Cantwell were the hot topic of conversation in the UK and even in other European countries.

Although Norwich City reached the English Premier League after being the champions of the Championship in the 2018-19 season, that was not enough for them to remain in the category and they are currently on their way to the first tier of English football, leading the Championship. Something very smart that the Norwich City FC board achieved was to retain most of their important players as well as give continuity to the coaching staff led by Daniel Farke, who is now in his fourth season at the helm of The Canaries.

Daniel Farke is a representative of the current prototype of the current German manager who is committed to offensive football and who wants his team to be the protagonist of each game and that is the idea that he has transmitted to Norwich players since he arrived at the club. The most outstanding player is undoubtedly the Argentine Emiliano Buendía, whose level is one of the highest in the Championship. Clearly a player who deserves better competitions. There is much talk about his possible departure to Arsenal FC or back to La Liga where he already played with Getafe CF.

Finnish Pukki continues to be the team’s top scorer with 11 goals so far this season while midfielder Oliver Skipp, on loan from Tottenham, has been one of the revelations due to the way he has established himself in Farke’s starting eleven and has become the engine of the team. As a possible point of improvement is the defensive aspect that although more work has been noticed than last season, it still requires some positional adjustments thinking about a next season in the English Premier League.

If they maintain the level they have shown in this half of the season, it is quite likely that they will return to the English Premier League and, if they maintain the group of players and coaching staff, they will be a team that adds competitiveness to the best football league in the world.
