Despite the firm intention of Ronald Koeman to keep the Brazilian at FC Barcelona, Philippe Coutinho’s future may be far from the Liga. Other than a potential return to Liverpool, Coutinho is followed by other teams including Juventus.
The relationship between Philippe Coutinho and FC Barcelona has always been complicated. It commenced with one of the most expensive transfers in the football history (141 million euros transfer fee) and it has never flown as expected. After one year in Spain, Coutinho moved to Bayern Munich on loan for 1 season before returning to Barcelona this year. However, once again, we are here talking about the solid rumors of a potential departure of Coutinho from Spain. As of today, the destination remains unknown despite the Brazilian footballer has several teams interested.
The rumors have been confirmed few days ago by his agent, Kia Joorabchian, who has mentioned that all options are on the table. Such a transfer could have already happened last summer but Ronald Koeman, Barcelona’s coach, expressly requested blaugrana’s management of having Coutinho available during the ongoing season. So far Coutinho, whenever not injured, has played regularly with convincing performances including the 4-0 against Osasuna last weekend. But still, Coutinho does not feel 100% a Barcelona player for some reasons. In addition, the financial situation of Barcelona requires a big capital injection which may come from the sale of one of its starts.
Therefore, it seems that Philippe Coutinho may leave Barcelona at the end of this season. And the question is: where? The most likely destination is the English Premier League given the cost of the transfer fees and the fact that Coutinho loves playing in England. In addition, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are seriously considering approaching Coutinho’s agent and Barcelona to close the deal as soon as possible. Recently, also Juventus contacted Barcelona’s management however, Kia Joorabchian commented that Juventus is not on top of Coutinho’s list.
In a recent interview, the player himself did not deny a potential transfer in the future after confirming that his short-term objective to play for Barcelona and to help the team as much as possible.
