PSG: Thomas Tuchel out, Mauricio Pochettino in
2 min read
Despite straightening the French club’s path this season, German manager Thomas Tuchel is no longer in charge of PSG. And Argentinian manager Mauricio Pochettino is poised to become the new head coach of the French giant.
Thomas Tuchel never had an easy time at PSG and his recent sacking was bound to happen any time soon. Issues with players, issues with the PSG board, infighting with sport director Leonardo… Tuchel was constantly struggling with many different problems at the French club and now we have reached the inevitable conclusion.
There are reports that Thomas Tuchel has been sacked and, most likely, Mauricio Pochettino, former Tottenham manager and former PSG player, would be hired to take over at the club. What can be the possible outcome of this situation? Too soon to know. Tuchel is most likely going to take his time to pick his next job; there are many different clubs that could be interested in his services, so that is worth taking into account.
Pochettino had a lot of choices on his plate and PSG, for the most part, seems like an odd fit. He is known for promoting teamwork and intense pressing, which is something that he is not going to be able to do with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and others. Along with that, there is also the challenge of managing these big egos, which Pochettino is yet to prove to be capable of doing.
This is something Tuchel struggled with a lot and is definitely going to challenge the Argentinian manager. Overall, this is a situation that was bound to happen and now is going to be very interesting to see how Pochettino does in this particular situation as it is a very different context to the one he is used to.
And when it comes to Thomas Tuchel, this was most likely a big learning experience for him and he is going to have a very different profile when he picks another club.
