Shaq Says Clippers Must Trade Paul George
2 min read
If you remember our earlier article written about Paul George’s speech to his fellow Los Angeles Clippers teammates, then this article will make a lot more sense.
The LA Clippers recently made it to the NBA Western Conference Finals before blowing a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets. This was followed by Paul George’s speech that next year would be their year, which was met with eye rolls from his fellow teammates. Then, Doc Rivers announced that he would be leaving the Clippers to be the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Well, to add even more fire to all of this drama, NBA legend Shaquille O’ Neal said that the Clippers must trade Paul George if they even want a chance at an NBA title. Shaq announced these thoughts on his podcast, simply titled “The Big Podcast with Shaq”. He did not directly state Paul George himself, but his co-host asked if that is who the Clippers needed to get rid of, in which Shaq hinted that they should trade him.

The main reasoning behind this, was that he feels Kawhi Leonard needs to be the sole leader on the team instead of contending with Paul George to be the leader of the team. Saying that the Toronto Raptors did just fine when Kawhi was the main leader on the team, and this is something that should be replicated in LA. Now Shaq is just a broadcaster at this point and has no affiliations with any front office, so his suggestion does not directly affect any team’s decision. Nonetheless, this is certainly an interesting suggestion and it will be fun to watch what happens to the Los Angeles Clippers this off-season.
