WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury made a recent appearance on “Good Morning Britain”, a popular British morning show, clamoring for an upcoming reunion fight with compatriot Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs), who defended his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts last Saturday against Kubrat “Cobra” Pulev (28-2, 14 KOs) by knockout in the ninth round.

Tyson “Gipsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) admitted he was surprised by Anthony Joshua‘s performance but disappointed with the statements he made after the fight. The WBC and the Lineal heavyweight world champion said that all the boxing enthusiasts in the world they only want one thing: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury as soon as possible. Therefore, Fury commented that the post-fight interview of Joshua were deeply disappointing since the British super-champion avoided the questions on a reunification fight. Looking straight in the camera and obviously referring to Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury invited AJ to grow a pair of balls and sign the contract for the super-fight between the British champions.

Tyson Fury is not new to public statements inviting Anthony Joshua to sign up for the mega fight. Whoever follows the Gypsy King’s social media platforms knows perfectly what I am referring to. In any event, we post below the most recent invitation by Twitter. But Tyson Fury is definitely correct when he says that the entire boxing world is looking forward to seeing this fight, arguably this saga of fights since it will be hard for the loser not to ask for a rematch. In addition, the recent statements of Eddie Hearn, promoter of Anthony Joshua, confirm that there is a strong interest also from AJ’s side to arrange the fight. According to several sources, last June, both sides actually agreed in principle on the financial aspect that would cover two fights. Therefore, we remain positive that 2021 will be perfect year!

However, in those past few days another detail emerged. There’s a real possibility that a hypothetical reunification match won’t involve a WBO title defense, given that the mandatory challenger, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (18-0, 13 KOs), has no intention of stepping down. Theoretically, Usyk has all the rights in the world to push for it forcing the WBO to vacate the belt. However, we will analyze this situation in a separate article.

What we are interested to report is the view of Tyson Fury in this regard. The WBC heavyweight champion commented that he is confident that the super-fight will be for all the belts, including the WBO title, since also Usyk will agree to temporarily gave up his rights. However, if this were not possible, the fight must happen in any event since, still according to Tyson Fury, this clash between him and Anthony Joshua would be the greatest fight of this boxing generation and, historically, second only to the well-known fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman promoted as “Rumble in the Jungle” of 1974. Fingers crossed with or without the WBO belt!
