UFC 256, Figueiredo vs Moreno: analysis and predictions
2 min read
UFC 256 will be full of thrill and action as UFC Flyweight Championship will be part of the event. The current champion Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-0) and the #2 ranked fighter Brandon Moreno (18-5-1) will face each other in the in the octagon on 12 December 2020.
Deiveson “Deus Da Guerra” Figueiredo will defend the UFC Flyweight belt against Brandon “The Assassin Baby” Moreno at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on 12 December. Deiveson Figueiredo is on a 5-match win streak and he will defend for the second time the belt in the flyweight division. The Brazilian has been so good throughout his mixed-martial arts career losing only one fight. On the contrary, Brandon Moreno lacks consistency despite in the last 5 fights he managed to win 4 and draw 1. Moreno’s 3-match win streak can be a morale boost in view of this challenging fight against the champion. In addition, Moreno fought less than a month ago winning against Brandon Royval (12-5-0) by TKO in round 1.
Figueiredo is given as the favorite in the fight by many MMA experts and enthusiasts, including us. The Brazilian seems to have reach his full maturity as fighter and we do not foresee any shocking result. However, we all know that once inside the octagon everything can happen, and one punch can completely change the destiny of the fight. We have seen this happening frequently and we have all witnessed one such example earlier this year when Justin Gaethje (22-3-0) finished Tony Ferguson (25-4-0) with brutal punches.
Figueiredo is a monster as it seems that he has a habit of winning the games with brilliant technique and powerful punches. On the other hand, Brandon Moreno is a submission star and he is not well-known for his power punching as much as his ability to take-down opponents and finish them by submission. It is another typical asymmetric fight, as another UFC 256 fight between Tony Ferguson vs Charles Oliveira, where the striker cannot get distracted and speed will be a crucial factor. We predict that the Champion is going to look for an early stoppage by going hard on his opponent in order to knock him out. Moreno is expected to fight in his traditional defensive style with a lot of grappling and tentative take-downs.
In one of Moreno’s recent interviews, he looked confident to defeat Figueiredo and take his title. Moreno said that he has been waiting for this time for so long and he is not going to waste the opportunity. Good luck to both!
