The talented Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho, who was trained in the youth teams of Watford and Manchester City, arrived in Germany in 2017 at just 17 years old and for a transfer valued at 10 million euros, this without having a debut with the Man City. A super star in the making, Sancho’s stocks have been falling this season with subpar performances. But why is that?
The impact Jadon Sancho, 20-year-old British footballer, had in the Bundesliga was almost instant from the moment he got to Germany. He began to play with Borussia Dortmund’s first team two years ago and showed off his skills to the point he was widely regarded as one of the biggest talents for the next decade, which quickly began to attract the attention of the big European teams, thus making his market value rise rapidly.
In the 2020 summer transfer window, there was much speculation about the possibility that Manchester United, endorsed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was going to sign Jadon Sancho, with talks of a transfer fee of 120 million euros. Definitely a huge sum, and it seemed that the Red Devils were willing to pay it but they were not able to reach an agreement with Borussia Dortmund, mainly due to the forms of payment. There was talk that Jadon Sancho himself had an interest in returning to England and joining Manchester United, which obviously never materialized. He felt homesick and wanted to play in the English Premier League, which was always his dream… and that is starting to show with his recent performances.
This season, the performance of Sancho has fallen a lot compared to what he had shown in the previous ones. In fact, in the previous season he scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga and in the current one he has not scored yet. To this must be added that his production numbers have declined greatly and his attitude seems somewhat disinterested, especially when compared to his teammates, such as Erling Haaland, Gio Reyna or the very young Youssoufa Moukoko.
It seems that Sancho’s poor performance is related to his frustrated signing for Manchester United which, it should be noted, could be tried yet again in the next winter transfer window and it is possible that the Red Devils will be successful this time as the market value of the winger has been lowered and it is not favorable for Borussia Dortmund to keep a player that is not delivering and who doesn’t want to be with them.
By the way, this also shows a lack of professionalism of the player if that is really the cause of their current low level and Manchester United already had recent experiences with some players who tended to have similar attitudes towards their signings, such as Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and a couple more. Still, Jadon Sancho is still very young, and he can get his career back on track quite quickly and easily. Would it be with Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United or somewhere else? We will find out in 2021.
